Cleveland Video Company headed out to Chardon, Ohio to work with Steven Douglas Corp on an About Us video designed to tell the story behind their business. Steven Douglas Corp is a family-run company known for high-end custom automation machine work. They take on complex projects and build machines designed to solve real-world manufacturing challenges. While they had plenty of pride in what they build, they had never actually produced an About Us video before. This project gave them an opportunity to change that. Instead of simply showing off their machines, the goal was to tell the story of the people, family, craftsmanship, and experience behind those machines.
The Goal
Steven Douglas Corp wanted an About Us video that could give potential customers a better understanding of who they are and what makes their company different.
The video needed to:
Introduce the people behind the business and the family values that helped build it
Showcase the precision and craftsmanship that goes into their custom automation work
Give viewers a real sense of the scale of their facility and operation
Highlight the machines and projects they build without making the video feel overly technical
Create a polished representation of the company that they could use to introduce themselves to future customers, partners, and employees
Our Game Plan
We spent two full days on-site at Steven Douglas Corp's facility in Chardon, capturing interviews, company footage, and plenty of behind-the-scenes visuals. On the interview side, we sat down with the CEO and three other members of the Steven Douglas Corp team. Hearing from multiple people throughout the organization gave us the opportunity to tell a much more complete story.
We also brought a full professional production setup to make sure the visuals matched the quality of the work Steven Douglas Corp produces:
Two Canon R5C cinema cameras paired with professional cinema lenses
Professional lighting for each interview setup
Professional audio equipment for clean, broadcast-quality interviews
From there, we spent significant time capturing the facility and the work happening inside it. We filmed the shop floor, custom automation equipment, employees working, machinery in operation, and the details that help demonstrate the level of craftsmanship that goes into each project.
The Story Behind "They Make Machines That Work"
One of the most memorable parts of the project came from the company's CEO, who summed up what Steven Douglas Corp does in a simple phrase:
"They make machines that work."
That line captures something important about the company. Custom automation can be incredibly complicated. There are engineering challenges, design considerations, precision manufacturing, programming, testing, and countless details that have to come together for a machine to perform the way it should.
